Images: #TBT Gallery looks back at high school football in 1969

Much has changed within the game of high school football since 1969.

Offenses are much more diverse, there's a heavier general emphasis on passing the ball and synthetic field turf and Friday night games are now the norm.

What hasn't changed much at all since 1969 is how important the sport has been to the young people who play it, and to the schools and towns they represent.

There's nothing quite like the ritual of a Friday night football game early in the season, when every team can still hope it's in for a truly special season.
