Boys soccer: Elgin shuts out South Elgin

Jonathan Ramirez's goal off a PK deflection helped Elgin defeat South Elgin 1-0 Thursday in Upstate Eight crossover boys soccer action.

Keeper Martin Jimenez Estrada made 9 saves in the shutout for the Maroons (2-0). South Elgin (0-1) got 8 saves from keeper Brian Dykstra.

Burlington Central 1, DeKalb 1: Tony Rodriguez delivered a second half goal from Max Freeman in a DeKalb Tournament tie against the host Barbs. Ryan Fitzgerald made 5 saves for the Rockets (1-0-1).

Marmion Academy 0, Plainfield East 0: The Cadets (0-0-1) received 3 saves from Danny Galush in net in a nonconference tie to open up the season.

CL South 2, Prairie Ridge 2: The Gators (0-0-2) tied for the second-straight outing in Fox Valley Conference crossover action. Nikolas Getzinger and Andrew Grabowski each scored goals for South while Nicholas Langdon and Jeffery Kirshenbaum offered an assist each. Spencer Traub stopped 5 shots in net.

Deerfield 3, Dundee-Crown 2: Carlos Sanchez and Julian Ajroja each scored goals in the Chargers' Lake Forest Shootout loss. Freddy Martinez and Jeremy Jareckyj garnered assists while keeper Luis Cruz tallied 5 saves.

Hampshire 1, St. Edward 0: Hampshire scored an own goal with 3 minutes left to play to down St. Edward in nonconference action.
