Eddie Royal joins injured Bears wide receivers

Eddie Royal is the latest Bears receiver to be injured. A hip issue kept him out of Wednesday's practice, and he's considered “day-to-day” by John Fox.

Alshon Jeffery (calf) has not practiced in two weeks, and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) remained out, along with Chris Pantale (illness) and Ryan Mundy (hip).

“Yeah we got a few guys out. But it doesn't appear real long-term with anybody and it gives some other guys some opportunities,” Fox said of the injuries at wide receiver.

Jermon Bushrod (back) participated in practice after missing Tuesday's session, but he rotated reps with Charles Leno at left tackle.

“I think our staff will do a good job of monitoring it and we'll see how it holds up,” Fox said.

Pernell McPhee (chest) was also back at practice.

Cutler on Bennett comment:

In a Chicago Magazine story, Martellus Bennett made comments about his quarterback and leadership, or lack thereof.

“Why does everyone assume the quarterback is the leader?” Bennett said, among other philosophies about leadership, in the story. Cutler clearly saw what Bennett had to say and wasn't bothered, but did respond to a question about it.

“I've got a good rapport with Marty, no matter what he says,” Cutler said. “I think he was trying to say there's different leaders in every company, and the Bears, we're not excluded from that group. Coach Fox is going to lead differently than I am, and Adam Gase is going to lead differently than I am, and Marty's going to lead a different way from the way that I do. So it is what it is. I know he's doing everything possible to help us out. I'm excited for him”

Quick hits:

Shea McClellin had two interceptions at practice. … Cameron Meredith and Jeremy Kelley each had leaping touchdown catches. … Terrance Mitchell picked off a pass in the end zone right after Kelley's touchdown came with Mitchell in coverage.
