Theater events: 'American Idiot' opens Hypocrites' 19th season

Hypocrites' 'Idiot'

Days after The Hypocrites' earned a leading eight equity Joseph Jefferson Award nominations for its production of "All Our Tragic," it previews the regional premiere of "American Idiot," the stage adaptation of Green Day's 2004 album chronicling the coming-of-age story of three friends navigating a post-Sept. 11 world. The musical, directed by longtime ensemble member Steven Wilson with music direction by Andra Velis Simon, opens Hypocrites' 19th season. Aurora resident Brian Keys co-stars as Favorite Son. ABT's 'Rainmaker'

To launch its 30th anniversary, American Blues Theater co-founder Ed Blatchford directs a revival of N. Richard Nash's "The Rainmaker" featuring Linsey Page Morton as Lizzie Curry, a young woman living on a drought-ravaged farm with her father and brothers during the 1930s. She falls in love with a drifter named Bill Starbuck (Steve Key) who promises to make it rain. Previews begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Shrine comedy
