USS Illinois Committee of Elgin American Legion Post 57 to raise funds for USS Illinois

The USS Illinois Committee of the Elgin American Legion Post 57 is raising funds for USS Illinois with a silent and live auction reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Elgin American Legion Post 57, 820 N. Liberty St. There will be hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.

Tickets are $25 per person.

The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., with the live auction at 8 p.m. There will be an introduction of honorary committee and VIPs at 7:45 p.m.

The USS Illinois (SSN-786) is a Virginia-class nuclear power submarine. It is the first naval ship to be named after the Prairie state since 1897. One of the objectives of the committee is to provide for ongoing support for the ship and crew. The committee hopes to raise $10,000 at this event. The USS Illinois Committee of the Elgin American Legion Post 57 includes Post 57 Adjutant Don Sleeman, Chin Keomuongchanh and state Sen. Michael Noland.

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to fellow service members and veterans. The American Legion is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.
