Lake County woman charged with lying about attack to get attention

A Lake County woman has been charged with falsifying a police report for reportedly lying to police about being attacked while jogging, authorities said Tuesday.

Jessica C. Kramer, 20, of the 23500 block of North Echo Lake Road, was charged with a misdemeanor count of attempted disorderly conduct - making a false police report, authorities said.

Authorities said in a news release that Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to the area of West Hillcrest Drive and North Echo Lake Road near Lake Zurich at 3 a.m. Aug. 23 for a report of a woman who had been attacked.

Kramer met with deputies who said she was outside jogging about 2:50 a.m. when two males in an older model pickup truck drove up behind her, authorities said.

Kramer told police the male passenger exited the pickup truck and attempted to forcefully grab her arm, pull her hair and struck her at least two times on the back of the head, according to authorities.

She told police she was able to escape from the man and run home, authorities said.

Sheriff officials and local police began searching the area for the vehicle, authorities said, while evidence technicians processed the scene of the attack.

While detectives were investigating, Kramer told police she fabricated the event for attention due to relationship problems she was having with her boyfriend, officials said.

An arrest warrant was issued Aug. 24 for Kramer, authorities said, and she turned herself into police the next day. She was been released from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of her $10,000 bond.

If found guilty of the crime, Kramer could be sentenced up to one year in jail, authorities said. The charge is also probationable.

Kramer is due back in court Sept. 24, authorities said.
