DAR Essay Contest

The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades 5 through 8.

The title is, "A Colonial Family's Reaction to the Stamp Act".

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the law that was passed by the British Parliament in 1765. It required colonists to pay a tax upon every paper document, including newspapers, and more. In response, American citizens organized to protest, saying "No taxation without representation!" These groups united-- to eventually form the force behind the American Revolution.

Libertyville Township students in public, parochial school, or home school are eligible. Essays are due the week of November 2, 2015.

Information is available at the youth services desk at Cook Memorial or Fremont Library. Contact Nancy Alban for questions - albanfamily4@gmail.com
