TCD names interim director

The board of directors of the DuPage Area Occupational Education System has named Alf Logan as interim director, overseeing the administration of DAOES and Technology Center of DuPage in Addison.

Former director Jim Thorne left in July to take a position as an assistant superintendent for a school district in Indiana. Logan will serve until the DAOES board hires a new director.

Logan, a retired superintendent of Fenton High School District 100 in Bensenville, is no stranger to DAOES. He served on the DAOES board for more than 20 years, both as an active committee member and as board president.

Based in Addison, DAOES is one of Illinois' 57 Education for Employment systems. Representatives of 14 high school districts from DuPage County and Lyons Township comprise the DAOES governing board. Its two main functions are to plan for the delivery of Career and Technical Education programs for the Western suburbs and to oversee the operation of the Technology Center of DuPage.

TCD is an elective career center offering 20 advanced CTE classes for high school juniors and seniors, focusing on career preparation, college readiness and dual credit (both high school and college credit concurrently).

Overall, DAOES helps provide career exploration services to more than 50,000 high school students and educational support to more than 5,000 certified school staff members.

EFE systems support local districts in the cooperative planning and delivery of high-quality CTE programs and classes to students within their system.

EFEs promote continuous improvement and accessibility of secondary CTE programs, provide accountability for the use of both state and federal CTE funds, and work with local postsecondary institutions to create programs that enhance both the technical skills and academic development of students.

The DAOES office is at 301 S. Swift Road, Addison, on the TCD campus. For information about DAOES, see www.daoes.org.
