Little Bear Ribfest draws thousands to Vernon Hills

The fifth annual Vernon Hills Park District Little Bear Ribfest continued Saturday, serving up delicious ribs from six different vendors.

Big Ed's Barbecue, Real Urban Barbecue, The Full Slab, Uncle Bub's, Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue and Smokin' T's Barbecue sold their own twists on the barbecue favorite at the two-day festival in Century Park.

Vernon Hills Park District Special Events Supervisor Marty Walsh said the local fest attracted 2,000 visitors Friday night and should attract 4,000 to 5,000 people overall.

"The neat thing about our Little Bear Ribfest is that we're keeping it a very focused event. We're staying true to having local blues, local ribs and even local beer," Walsh said.

Festivalgoers kicked back on lawn chairs and blankets as they enjoyed entertainment on the main stage. Saturday featured Joanna Connor, The Red White & Blues Band, and Lil Ed & The Blues Imperials.

Other food at the fest included Bobo's funnel cakes and ice cream and the Mundelein/Vernon Hills/Lincolnshire Rotary Club roasted corn.
