Kildeer travel pro wins trip to Spain

Kevin and Linda Rhodes of Kildeer recently returned from the San Fermin Running of the Bulls Festival in Pamplona, Spain. This past winter, Kevin Rhodes won the Tourist Office of Spain in Chicago's promotional campaign when the Chicago Bulls staff drew his name from among the 6,877 entries received. Rhodes won the weeklong trip, during which he and his wife were received by Pamplona Mayor Joseba Asiron and spent three nights in Madrid.

• A group show featuring artists with the Des Plaines Art Guild will be held in the Des Plaines Council Chambers at city hall, 1420 Miner St., during September and October. it will feature artists Beverly Becker, Peter Bueza, Dolores Kenney, Melissa Lloyd, Margaret Newman, Kathy Passi, Marilyn Perry, Rhonda Popko, Jean Rossi, Pat Schuler and Penny Weinberg. City hall is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Joshua Heiger, of Buffalo Grove, received a $2,000 hospitality scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year from the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Foundation. Heiger, a senior at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, received the scholarship based on outstanding academic achievement, a strong portfolio and a commitment to pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. The Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Foundation is the nonprofit, educational arm of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association.

• Gary M. Jones, an Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadet at Loyola University, Chicago, has graduated from the Cadet Leader Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky. CLC is a 30-day summer event that trains cadets to solve complex leadership issues and problems at the company level. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve. Jones is a 2012 graduate of William Fremd High School, Palatine.
