Schaumburg Boomers drop series opener to Florence

The Schaumburg Boomers dropped the opener of a three-game weekend series with the Florence Freedom by a 7-3 final on Friday before another crowd of over 5,000.

Florence scored 4 unearned runs in the top of the first to take the lead and stretched the advantage to 7-0 with two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Kyle Ruchim doubled home a run in the fifth to plate the first Schaumburg run. Ruchim added an RBI single in the sixth and finished with 3 hits in the contest. The Boomers drew 7 walks in the contest along with 7 hits and 2 hit by pitches. Eddie Cody suffered the loss, working five innings. Kagen Hopkins and Hideyoshi Otake each threw two scoreless frames.
