Lake Barrington motorcyclist in critical - and facing charges - after hitting deer

A Lake Barrington man is in critical condition after hitting a deer with his motorcycle early Friday morning in North Barrington, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.

Daniel M. Shine, 29, of the 400 block of Old Barn Road, was driving north on the 100 block of Clover Hill Lane when he hit the deer around 12:20 a.m., officials said. He was ejected from his motorcycle and slid about 40 feet, the release said.

Shine was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where later Friday he remained in critical condition but was stable, officials said.

Shine, who police say was not wearing a helmet, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He is due in Waukegan court at 9 a.m. Oct. 7.

The Lake County sheriff's office is investigating the crash.
