Art Van Furniture moving into Schaumburg Dominick's

Schaumburg has now solved the problem of its two vacant Dominick's stores with the news Friday that Art Van Furniture will soon occupy the one at the southwest corner of Higgins and Meacham roads.

The Michigan-based company has Illinois stores in Batavia, Bedford Park, Burbank, Downers Grove, Chicago, Naperville and Orland Park.

The Art Van Furniture website Friday was promoting imminent locations at both 1293 E. Higgins Road in Schaumburg and 125 E. Army Trail Road in Glendale Heights.

Schaumburg's other vacant Dominick's, in Town Square at the southwest corner of Schaumburg and Roselle roads, was bought by Itasca-based Tony's Finer Foods last month and is expected to open in mid-2016.

Schaumburg Economic Development Manager Matt Frank said the village is excited to have Art Van Furniture as a new tenant in the shopping center at Higgins and Meacham roads, where it is expected to be a good fit with an existing Target and a coming Starbucks.

Representatives of Art Van Furniture could not be immediately reached Friday for comment on the expected opening date. Frank said the conversion of the former grocery store into a furniture store shouldn't be too difficult, but he thought a 2016 opening was more likely than one this fall.
