Images: #TBT gallery features Elburns Days from the 1980s
This year the Elburn Lions Club not only celebrates their 86th anniversary, but also will be hosting their 77th annual Elburn Days festival. This week's #TBT gallery features photos of the festival during the 1980s.
The three-day festival runs Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23 at Elburn Lions Community Park. Originally started as a one-day event in 1938, it eventually grew into a multiple-day festival featuring a parade, truck and tractor pulls, 4-H livestock judging and auction, carnival rides and more.
The motto of Lions Club International is “We Serve” and Elburn Days is the largest fundraiser of the year for the club. Proceeds from the festival support Elburn Lions Charities which help not only local charitable missions, but also throughout the country and sometimes the world.
The theme for this year's festival is “Working with you to make our community better.”
The festival kicks off Friday morning with rummage, bake and books sales throughout the downtown area and 4-H livestock judging at the park. At 6PM, the annual parade steps off, which draws families from many surrounding communities. Saturday features an early morning 5K and 1M Fun run with the big draw of the day being the truck and tractor pulls. On Sunday, there's a mud volleyball tournament and a pie eating contest. Each evening there is live music at the main stage. There is also a 50/50 car raffle with the grand prize being a 2015 Chevy car or truck.
Elburn Lions Community Park is located at 500 S. Filmore Street in Elburn. For a full schedule of events, go to elburnlions.com.
Many thanks to the Elburn Lions Club for providing the images for this week's gallery.
