Aurora man charged in shooting

A 21-year-old Aurora man is being held on charges related to an Aug. 9 shooting on the city's near east side, authorities said Thursday.

Andre Norman, of the 900 block of Plum Street, is charged with two counts each of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said. One of the aggravated discharge counts is a Class-X felony, which calls for enhanced sentencing upon conviction.

He is being held in the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles.

Police said the shooting occurred around midnight. Norman is accused of firing several shots at a vehicle occupied by three Aurora men, ages 22, 24 and 51, near Flagg and North Fourth streets.

Norman apparently had a running dispute with the 24-year-old and minutes before the shooting had stopped by the victim's house in a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Aurora woman, police said. Authorities said Norman displayed a handgun and threatened to shoot the man.

As Norman and the woman drove away, the three men got into a vehicle and began following them. Once in the area of Flagg and Fourth, Norman got out of the vehicle in which he was riding and opened fire.

None of the men were hit, but several bullets did strike their vehicle, police said. A home on the 100 block of North Fourth Street also was hit by a single round.

Police arrested the woman about an hour after the shooting, but she was released without being charged.

Police said they secured charges against Norman on Aug. 11 through the Kane County state's attorney's office. He was arrested Wednesday without incident.
