Mariano's coming to Bloomingdale in 2017

A Mariano's grocery store will open in Bloomingdale in early 2017, village officials said.

The new store will replace a long-vacant Dominick's in the Stratford Crossing Shopping Center at Gary and Schick avenues.

Dominick's closed its 87,000-square-foot Bloomingdale store in June 2012, officials said, leaving a large void where the grocer had served as an anchor on the south end of the shopping center.

"The filling of the former Dominick's location has been one of the top priorities for our village board," Mayor Franco Coladipietro said in a news release. "We are fortunate to add not just a dynamic new grocer, but a store that provides a culinary experience for foodies like me."

Mariano's is an upscale grocery chain owned by Milwaukee-based Roundy's.

Named for Chief Executive Officer Robert Mariano, the chain opened its first store in July 2010 in Arlington Heights. Since then it has opened stores in Aurora, Buffalo Grove, Elmhurst, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Palatine and Vernon Hills. It also has plans to open a store next year in Naperville.
