Get your game on at the Schaumburg Park District's newest attraction

On a sunny August morning at Hoover Park, Irina Tudor and her three children enjoyed a game of soccer at a unique new spot.

A "FreeGame" multisport system recently debuted at the park, located at 301 N. Springinsguth Road, behind Hoover Math & Science Academy. Constructed of metal and galvanized steel components, the contemporary-style court features two basketball hoops and an enclosed area that allows for a variety of sports, including volleyball, basketball, soccer and hockey.

"The kids thought this was so cool when they saw it," Tudor, of Schaumburg, said as her sons, Nathan, 6, Kevin, 8 and Michael, 11, kicked a soccer ball around the court with their two cousins. "They're very excited. It's neat that they can play different sports here."

Designed by playground supplier Kompan, the system at Hoover is the second of its kind in the area. Ultramodern sports-themed stick figure art decorates the walls, giving a fresh, cutting-edge feel.

"It's a pretty neat system and really well built," said Matthew Gaynor, parks planner for the District. "The reason we chose Hoover was it had the space and it is also a school site. We thought it would be a good location to try it out so school gym classes could take advantage of it."

As Tudor's sons finished their game, Angel Queza and his friends eagerly waited to use the court for a soccer scrimmage.

"Not many places have something like this," Queza, of Hoffman Estates, said.

For Jesus Lua, also of Hoffman Estates, the new system may help improve his game.

"It's set up for us to play soccer in a better way," Lua said. "It's perfect.
