Kaneland students can join in IMSA Fusion program

Students in fourth to eighth grade in Kaneland Unit District 302 can join in the Illinois Math and Science Academy's Fusion program.

By design, the IMSA Fusion curriculum is inquiry-based, problem-centered and integrative. The learning experiences focus on helping students "learn how to learn" and emphasize logic, mathematical thinking and experimental scientific thinking. Topics relate to the students' lives, thereby arousing their curiosity and increasing their motivation to learn in mathematics and science. Teachers from each participating school are supported with ongoing professional development for the delivery of the curriculum and use of appropriate pedagogy.

For the 2015-16 school year, Kaneland students can participate in the IMSA Fusion after school program offered at Harter Middle School in Sugar Grove starting Sept. 21.

The cost is $200. It runs Mondays and Thursdays, from 3 to 4:45 p.m. for sixth- to eighth-graders and 5 to 6:45 p.m. for fourth- and fifth-graders.

Classes run from September through April. Each session will be led facilitated by an IMSA-trained Kaneland employee. Classes are held on Monday and Thursday nights.

Registration with payment is due by Sept. 15. Visit web.kaneland.org.
