Police: Carpentersville woman set up man to be robbed

A 28-year-old Carpentersville woman is accused of enlisting three people - two of them juveniles - to rob a man who she invited to her apartment for casual sex, according to police and court records.

Stephanie Perez, of the 0-99 block of Oak Crest Drive, was being held at the Kane County jail on $100,000 bail after her arrest last week.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said Perez called a male acquaintance the night of Aug. 11 and insisted he come to her apartment.

"She was really insistent on him coming over. He initially didn't want to go over there," Bosshart said. "He finally relented."

When the 30-year-old St. Charles man arrived at about 11:45 p.m., there were two males standing in the parking lot.

One of the males asked the St. Charles man for a light and the man, sensing something was up, said he had a lighter but it was in his car.

The man went back to his car, put his phone in the vehicle and grabbed a lighter, Bosshart said. At that point, another male came out and the victim was robbed at gunpoint of his iPhone 6 and other items.

The victim was not injured and reported the robbery to police, who went to Perez' apartment and found the stolen phone, Bosshart said.

The firearm turned out to be a BB gun, Bosshart said.

Perez, who was arrested Aug. 12, is charged with felony armed robbery and two counts of felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor, records show. She faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Her next court date is Aug. 27.

James R. Davis, 19, of the 400 block of Hastings Street, Elgin, is charged with robbing the man of the phone, a pack of cigarettes and a condom, according to court records.

He was being held at the Kane County jail on $80,000 bail and faces between six and 30 years in prison if convicted. He is due in court Thursday.

Bosshart said authorities have charged a 14-year-old boy, who was being held at the St. Charles Youth Center, and are investigating a 13-year-old boy.
