Cougars win 12th consecutive home series

Zac Curtis moved into the record books, as the Kane County Cougars (35-12, 71-45) became the first team in 2015 to shutout the Lansing Lugnuts (24-24, 66-52) with a 3-0 win at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark Saturday evening. The victory also secured the Cougars' 12th consecutive home series win in 2015.

Former Lugnut Dawel Lugo brought home the game's first run as he plated Cody Regis with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 advantage against his former club.

The Cougars did not need any more offense after that, but Michael Perez doubled the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to plate Regis again. Chase Mallard (5-5) suffered the loss.

Wei-Chieh Huang (7-2) handcuffed the Lugnuts offense in his five scoreless innings of work as he kept Lansing hitless. Ryan Burr took over after the Taiwanese right-hander and served up the first hit of the day to Austin Davis. Despite the no-hitter broken up, Burr and the rest of the Cougar bullpen completed the shutout. Burr, Jency Solis, Luis Ramirez and Curtis all received holds in the victory.

For good measure, Henry Castillo added a solo shot in the seventh inning for connecting on his second home run in three days.

In the ninth inning, Curtis took over and tossed a perfect frame for his franchise record tying 27th save. Curtis became the first Cougar closer since Bryan Moore of 2000 to pick up 27 saves.

The Cougars will finish their home stand with the series finale against the Lugnuts on Sunday. Left-hander Jared Miller takes the mound for the Cougars against Lansing's Clinton Hollon (1-0, 0.00).
