Elburn man faces weapon, drug charges after traffic stop

An Elburn man is facing drug and weapon charges after he was found driving with an unloaded AR-15 rifle Friday night, according to Batavia police.

Jordan R. Kuti, 18, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, manufacturing or delivering cannabis, possession of cannabis and aggravated fleeing or eluding police.

A Batavia officer tried to pull over Kuti for speeding on Fabyan Parkway, but he sped up and turned north onto Route 25, driving at least 21 mph over the speed limit, according to Kane County Circuit Court records.

Geneva police stopped him near Bennett Park, about 3 miles from Fabyan, then Batavia police arrived and arrested Kuti. While searching his vehicle, police said they found the rifle, a magazine containing one bullet, 55 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, drug packaging materials and $795 in cash, police said.

Kuti did not have a firearm owners identification card, according to police.

He posted bond and was released from the Kane County jail Saturday afternoon.
