Aug. 25-26: Auditions for CLC Theatre department's 'The Stinky Cheese Man'

Community members ages 15 to 40 are invited to audition for the CLC children's theatre production of "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales" at 6:30 p.m. on either Aug. 25 or 26.

Auditions will be held in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Performances will take place Oct. 1 and 2 at 10 a.m., Oct. 3 at 3 and 7 p.m. and Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre.

Actors should prepare a comic monologue approximately 90 seconds long.

The play will be directed by Brian Gill, CLC theatre part-time faculty member. Gill strongly encourages people to audition on Aug. 25, so if needed, they can be called back on Aug. 26. There will be no additional call-backs later that week.

"The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales" was adapted by John Glore from the book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. The show takes your favorite fairytales and spins them on their heads in this zany adaptation of the award-winning book. It centers on Jack, who has to save himself from the terrible Giant, but a host of familiar fairy tale characters, and one very annoying Stinky Cheese Man, keep messing up his plans. "The Stinky Cheese Man is non-stop hilarious," says Portland Stage Reviews.

Members of the community are also invited to register for CLC theatre courses. Two theatre courses fulfill CLC's general education fine arts core requirement―Introduction to Theatre and Diversity in American Theatre, and several others are Illinois Articulation Agreement transfer courses. Daytime courses include Introduction to Theatre, Principles of Acting, Play Analysis for Production, Acting II, Lighting for Stage and Studio, Stage Makeup, Stagecraft and Stage Management. Evening sections of Introduction to Theatre and Principles of Acting are also being offered.

"Whether your interest is technical theatre or performance, we have a course for you-acting, stagecraft, lighting, stage management and more," said Craig Rich, theatre department co-chair. For more information, contact him at (847) 543-2567 or crich@clcillinois.edu. Fall semester classes begin Aug. 24.
