5-year-old rescued from pool getting out of hospital today

A 5-year-old boy who was revived by lifeguards Thursday morning after he was found unconscious an Elk Grove Village pool, will be released from the hospital today, according to the Elk Grove Park District and fire officials.

Lance Harris, Elk Grove Village deputy fire chief, said the boy was first spotted floating face down in the pool at Rainbow Falls water park by an off-duty Bensenville firefighter/paramedic who was swimming nearby. The paramedic helped lifeguards bring the boy to the side of the pool.

The lifeguards then began reviving the boy and brought him back to consciousness after around 45 seconds, according to Tom Busby, the executive director of the Elk Grove Park District.

"I couldn't be prouder of our staff and how they handled the situation," Busby said. "They did what they are trained to do."

Harris said paramedics were dispatched to the pool at 11:34 a.m. They took the boy and his father to Alexian Brothers Medical Center and said Friday he is doing much better.

Busby said he didn't know what happened that the boy became unconscious, but knows he had a pulse throughout the rescue.

Harris said paramedics didn't notice any signs of trauma like he would have had if he had fallen and knocked unconscious.

Busby said the boy stayed overnight at the hospital.

"He will be released today," Busby said. "That's how well he's doing."
