New 'Frozen' short film comes home

Anna and Elsa are back!

It's up to you to decide whether that's a threat or a promise.

“Frozen Fever,” the seven-minute short film bundled with Disney's live-action “Cinderella” this past spring in theaters, is available now from digital video outlets as part of the “Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection.” A Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of the same collection will hit stores Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The new adventure of the stars of Disney's wildly successful “Frozen” is the centerpiece, and features a new song by the Oscar-winning duo of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. They wrote that song your kids have been listening to nonstop for the last 18 months. (This could apply to pretty much any song from “Frozen,” couldn't it?)

“Frozen Fever” is a cute but ultimately forgettable visit with all our friends from the film, and shows us what happens when Queen Elsa, she of the icy superpowers, has a cold — she sneezes out mini-snowmen!?

The true star of the collection is “Paperman,” which spins a fantastical, satisfying love story with black-and-white hand-drawn and computer animation — and does it in six minutes. Director John Kahrs won the Academy Award for best animated short film in 2013, and composer Christophe Beck's gorgeous score is another great addition to the pantheon of Disney music. In theaters, “Paperman” played in front of “Wreck-it Ralph” — a fine film in its own right — and completely blew it away, if you ask me.

Also featured on the collection: “Feast,” the tale of a hungry dog seen with “Big Hero 6” in theaters; “Tangled Ever After,” featuring the return of Rapunzel, Flynn Rider and friends; “Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa,” which stars characters from the ABC-TV specials of the same name; “How to Hook Up Your Home Theater,” a throwback to the classic Goofy shorts of Uncle Walt's era; and six more.

Where it all began

“The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” NBC's secret-agent series from the '60s, gets the big-screen treatment this weekend with erstwhile Superman Henry Cavill and erstwhile Lone Ranger Armie Hammer. But you can watch all 105 episodes of the original show, starring Robert Vaughn as American agent Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as Ukrainian counterpart Illya Kuryakin, on your computer or mobile device thanks to Amazon Instant Video or iTunes. You can buy single episodes for $1.99 or entire seasons for $24.99-$34.99.
