Palatine Dist. 15 junior high soccer program to double in size

Palatine Township Elementary District 15's junior high soccer program is set to double in size with the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

More than 500 students tried out for the soccer program last year, District 15 Superintendent Scott Thompson says, and the district only had space to for 144 kids.

But with this year's expansion, the soccer program will accept up to 288 students.

Each of the district's four junior highs will have four teams; 7th grade boys, 7th grade girls, 8th grade boys and 8th grade girls.

Thompson said the soccer program gives lower income students whose families can't afford the cost of joining a travel soccer team the chance to play.

Board members unanimously approved the $80,000 plan Wednesday.
