Schaumburg Boomers notch shutout victory

The Schaumburg Boomers recorded their sixth shutout win of the season Wednesday by notching a 2-0 decision over the Windy City ThunderBolts in Schaumburg.

Eddie Cody threw seven shutout innings to propel the Boomers. Cody, who owns a 5-0 record in day games, allowed a hit to the second batter of the game and then shut down the ThunderBolts, retiring 12 in a row at one point. Cody threw 97 pitches and allowed just two hits.

The offense tallied single runs in the third and fourth to provide Cody with a cushion. After failing to record a baserunner through the first 2.2 innings, Cam Sherrer opened a stretch of three straight singles with two outs. Kyle Ruchim drove home Sherrer to put the Boomers ahead. Willi Martin added an RBI double in the fourth. Sherrer finished with two hits. Dexter Price shut the door for his fourth save of the year.

The Boomers (31-43) conclude the homestand Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. LHP Peter Gehle (2-4, 5.59) starts for the Boomers against LHP Zak Wasserman (3-4, 5.54).
