Cougars lose 6-2 at home
The tables were turned on Wednesday evening as it was the Great Lakes Loons (19-26, 57-56) jumping out to a big lead in the contest over the Kane County Cougars (32-13, 68-45) in a 6-2 win at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Great Lakes grabbed a 5-0 advantage by the fourth inning as they score five unearned runs off of Cougar starter Josh Taylor (2-2). A Dawel Lugo throwing error brought home the Loons' first run in the second, but Joe Munoz's error in the fourth kept the frame alive and loaded the bases. Jimmy Allen made the Cougars pay as the Great Lakes designated hitter launched a grand slam over the left field wall.
Tommy Bergjans (1-1) cruised through his five scoreless innings of work only allowing three hits and striking out four.
The Cougars offense didn't find the scoreboard until the seventh inning when they were down by six. With two runners on, Colin Bray lifted a two-run double off of the left center field wall to plate Marty Herum and Cody Regis. Bray's two-bagger was the final scoring play of the evening as Great Lakes reliever Scott Briggs brushed a perfect two innings of work in the final pair of frames.
The Cougars will go for their 11th consecutive home series win as they host the Loons on Thursday. Ethan Elias (9-4, 2.83) will take the mound for the Cougars against Great Lakes' Grant Holmes (6-2, 2.55).
