Spark of Brilliance Ignites Business Award Nominations
West Chicago's Brilliance in Business Awards Program is now in its seventh year and has a new component to encourage resident involvement. A Spark of Brilliance seeks to reward residents who nominate their favorite business by entering them into a random drawing in which they could win a small prize donated by formerly recognized brilliant businesses. The list of businesses donating items to the giveaway continues to grow and currently includes:

• Daniel and Associates Real Estate
• Extra Value Liquors
• FNBC Bank & Trust
• Kramer Tree Specialists
• Main Street Family Dentistry
• Pro-Pak Industries
• We Grow Dreams Garden Center
The purpose of both the Brilliance in Business Awards and Spark of Brilliance programs is to bring greater awareness, support and appreciation for the many outstanding companies doing business in West Chicago. These businesses provide jobs, tax revenue, and quality of life for all who live in the community. The City is hoping that by asking residents to nominate a worthy business, a greater sense of connection to local business will develop. As the 350 Project, a national organization devoted to "saving the brick and mortars our nation is built on", challenges "what three businesses would you miss if they disappeared?" By nominating a business for this award, residents can actively acknowledge the meaningful contribution a business makes to the community.
"What I often hear from residents about why they enjoy living in West Chicago is 'it's the people that make the community great'. That translates into the people that work in our businesses, too. Maybe those people go out of their way to help you solve a problem or sell an interesting product that isn't available anywhere else. People have strong feelings about their favorite businesses and we want to hear about them," said Krista Coltrin, Marketing Assistant for the City of West Chicago.
Online nomination forms are available on the City of West Chicago's website, www.westchicago.org, under Businesses/Business Assistance and Programs. Anyone who nominates a business will be entered into a random drawing to win one of an assortment of small items donated by former brilliant businesses. The nomination deadline is September 4, 2015.
