Police chase ends in Oak Brook crash

A 35-year-old Westmont man was apprehended Monday after leading police on a chase that ended at Midwest Road and 22nd Street in Oak Brook, authorities said.

An Oak Brook police officer saw a blue pickup at 11:40 a.m. traveling north on York Road and disobeying a red light at 31st Street.

Officials said the officer attempted unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle near York and Roosevelt roads.

Officers from nearby towns then located and pursued the vehicle, which traveled through Hillside and Berkley before returning to Oak Brook at Butterfield and Midwest roads, according to ABC 7.

“The vehicle was cornered into a train station depot area, and officers got out on foot thinking it would be a foot chase. The suspect then tried to run over one of our officers who fired at the vehicle,” Hillside Police Chief Joseph Lukaszek told ABC 7.

Police said the pickup traveled south on Midwest Road and struck several vehicles at the intersection of Midwest Road and 22nd Street. The vehicle was disabled as a result of the crash. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said the driver, whom they have not yet publicly identified, has an active warrant in DuPage County for several charges, including domestic battery.
