Kane County Cougars drop series decider

The Kane County Cougars (31-12, 67-44) ended their road trip with a 3-3 mark as they dropped the rubber game to the West Michigan Whitecaps (24-18, 57-54) 6-3 on Sunday.

West Michigan took control of the game when they plated 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Whitecaps received some help as the Cougars committed 2 errors in the frame. Wei-Chieh Huang (6-2) was charged with 4 of the runs, but did not allow West Michigan to score after it.

The Cougars were the first team to have a lead as they grabbed a run in the third inning on Ildemaro Vargas' RBI fielder's choice. But from the fourth inning on, the Cougars only trailed in the ballgame despite a double steal that scored Henry Castillo and Colin Bray's sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Fernando Perez (2-8) picked up the win with a quality outing as he handed it to the West Michigan bullpen after the sixth.

Nick Baker matched the Whitecaps' reliever Trey Teakell with 2 perfect frames, before Joe Jimenez picked up the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Cougars enjoy an off day on Monday before beginning a six-game home stand.
