Carpentersville house fire causes $100,000 in damage
A Carpentersville home is uninhabitable after a fire caused $100,000 in damage Sunday, officials said.
The fire appeared to have started at around 7:45 a.m. in the back of a single-family, two-story house on the 800 block of Monroe Avenue, said Battalion Chief Kieran Stout.
Within 15 minutes, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which had extended to inside the home, Stout said.
Nobody was injured as a result of the fire, officials said. The residents were home at the time but were able to get out safely, Stout said.
The house sustained significant smoke damage, he said, and the kitchen and the roof above were fully destroyed.
The fire also melted the siding on two adjacent garages on neighboring properties, Stout said.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, he said, but no foul play is suspected.
Assisting with the fire were the East Dundee, Rutland-Dundee and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills fire protection districts, as well as the West Dundee Fire Department.
