Boomers allow too many in first inning

The Schaumburg Boomers allowed 3 first-inning runs in falling 5-2 to the Washington Wild Things before another crowd of over 5,000 fans.

Schaumburg starter Brett Mabry was on the verge of escaping the first inning with just 1 run before consecutive 2-out run scoring singles extended the Washington advantage to 3-0. The Boomers scored a run without a hit in the bottom of the inning as Mike Schulze drew a leadoff walk to extend his home on-base streak to 35 games. Kyle Ruchim drove home Schulze with a sacrifice fly. Mabry settled down, working 6 innings, allowing just 1 more run. Robby Spencer brought the Boomers within 3-2 on an RBI single in the third, but the bases were left loaded and Washington's bullpen denied any further opportunities. The Boomers were limited to just 5 hits in the defeat.
