Vernon Hills police searching for driver in hit-and-run crash

Vernon Hills police are searching for the driver who hit a pedestrian and fled the crash early Saturday near Oakwood and Valley roads.

The vehicle was traveling south on Oakwood Road when it struck and seriously injured the 23-year-old pedestrian from Vernon Hills about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police investigators believe the pedestrian had been walking north on Oakwood. The vehicle left the area, and the victim was able to walk to a nearby house for assistance, police said.

The person was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

From analyzing debris found at the scene, police believe that the offending vehicle is a 1999-2005 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle should have front end damage, including to the lower front trim on the driver's side. The color of the vehicle is not known.

Police are asking that anyone with knowledge of the accident or of a vehicle fitting the above description to contact the Investigations Section at (847) 247-4890 or to email pzimmerman@vhills.org.
