Prospect Hts. Eagle Scout dresses up city hall

The Prospect Heights City Hall has new landscaping and benches thanks to Prospect Heights resident Joey Salemi.

Salemi, 16, has been a Boy Scout for more than six years, and decided to improve the city hall as part of an Eagle Scout project.

He planned the project and raised funds for the benches and flowers that were installed Aug. 1. A handicap-accessible ramp will be installed by volunteers Saturday.

"I think this will contribute to the community because it makes Prospect Heights a more aesthetically pleasing and welcoming place to live for all of its citizens," Salemi said.

Salemi attended several city meetings to push his proposal and presented his project in front of board members. He also partnered with the Prospect Heights Garden Club to help with upkeep of the landscaping.

"They have agreed to maintain the perennials we planted, so they will continue to look good in the future," Salemi said.
