No injuries in Downers Grove house fire

No injuries were reported in an early morning fire Wednesday on the 3700 block of Downers Drive in Downers Grove, authorities said.

Downers Grove firefighters said they responded to a 911 call at 2:32 a.m. for a fire in an attached garage. When they arrived at the two-story home they found the family had escaped safely but the fire had engulfed the garage and spread into the house.

Firefighters battled the blaze for roughly 30 minutes and then remained on the scene to assist homeowners. Because of the amount of damage to the structure, the homeowners will not be able to return home at this time.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, authorities said.

Downers Grove firefighters were assisted by teams from the Lisle-Woodridge, Westmont, Lemont, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace and York Center fire departments.
