Fresh peaches make crisp even sweeter

I think I appreciate farmers markets and locally grown fruits and veggies even more because summer is so short in Illinois.

Last summer I found some amazing sweet, fresh peaches at the farmers market in Long Grove and making a peach crisp became a regular Sunday activity while they were in season.

If you've never made a dessert with fresh peaches, you will need to take an extra step and remove the skin. One of the easiest ways to do that is using a hot water and cold water contrast bath; the directions for doing that are included in the recipe.

I would not recommend using canned peaches in this recipe, but in the winter I have made it using frozen peaches. While the taste isn't quite as good using fresh fruit, it's still quite yummy!
