Arlington Heights man dies in motorcycle crash near Crystal Lake
An Arlington Heights man died Sunday after his motorcycle hit two vehicles in unincorporated Crystal Lake, officials said.
At about 11:10 a.m., Vincent E. Franchi, 50, was riding his motorcycle east on Route 14 just east of Sands Road when he entered the westbound lane, according to a preliminary investigation by the McHenry County sheriff's office. He hit a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a Ford Fusion, officials said.
Franchi's motorcycle then went off the north side of the road and came to a stop in the grass, officials said. Franchi was not wearing a helmet.
Cary Fire Protection District paramedics treated Franchi at the scene with the help of the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, said Lt. Michael Douglass, public information officer for Cary.
Franchi was then taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Daniel R. Williams, and the passenger, Lori L. Straub, both 45, were not injured. Thomas A. Wiley, 44, who was driving the Ford, was treated at the scene for minor injuries to his wrist, officials said.
Cary and Crystal Lake police and the McHenry County Conservation District also assisted on the scene.
McHenry County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the crash.
