Carnival rides a hit at Coon Creek Country Days in Hampshire

Kids of all ages swarmed the carnival Saturday at the 32nd annual Coon Creek Country Days at Bruce Ream Park in Hampshire, going on ride after ride, waving at their parents standing nearby.

Brooke Kelley, 4, her older sister, Madyson and friend Madeline Roberts, both 7, giggled and smiled with excitement as the trio piled into a glittery pink minicar and continuously honked its horn as it went around in circles. The girls will also be walking in the noontime parade on Sunday with their cheerleading team.

"I think it's just fun to see our local, small town put on something that the community can enjoy. And it's fun to see it through the kids' eyes," said Madeline's mother, Jamie Roberts.

Sarah Sundquist of Genoa, who was born and raised in Hampshire, brought her 2-year-old daughter, Elsie. Sundquist came to the festival all the time as a kid and is continuing the tradition with her daughter.

The festival continues through Sunday. For a full schedule of events and live entertainment, go to hcccd.com.
