Rep. Mussman talks state budget with seniors

With concerns about the governor's proposed cuts to programs geared toward senior citizens, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, met with a group of local seniors at the Schaumburg Barn to discuss the current budget process and the votes she's taken to restore funding for these programs.

"Whether it's in-home care or meals on wheels, the governor's proposed cuts would harm many of the seniors in my community and around the state," Mussman said.

"We are working constantly to pass a budget that will protect vital services for seniors and protect middle class families."

Throughout the state government shutdown, Mussman has worked to meet with various groups in the community to explain the situation and answer questions. In Springfield, Mussman has fought to fund programs for seniors for 30 days to avoid these services from stopping. Throughout the meeting, residents expressed concerns over the current budget debate and what it means for seniors.

"As a senior, it is important to me to be able to meet with our local elected officials in an open environment, and discuss the services that we need on a daily basis," John Ennis of Hanover Park said.

"It's comforting to know Rep. Mussman is down in our state Capitol fighting to protect the services we need from harmful cuts that have been proposed."
