Lombard Race for the Cure registration open

Registration for the Susan G. Komen Chicagoland Area Lombard Race for the Cure is now open.

The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 20, at Yorktown Center, 22nd Street and Highland Avenue, Lombard. To register or volunteer, visit www.komenchicago.org.

"We are so grateful to have the opportunity to bring the Race for the Cure to Lombard and its surrounding suburbs," Susan Tybon, Komen Chicago's CEO, said.

"Komen Chicago provides grants for many breast health and breast cancer services in DuPage County, so raising awareness and funds within the communities we serve is extremely impactful."

"Being able to promote breast cancer awareness, and the race, which directly helps fund breast health care locally is something I am truly passionate about," said Joan Knippen, Lombard race chairwoman.

"I love the hometown feel of the Lombard race - it's a great way for everyone, especially families, to spend an amazing morning."

Participants can be part of a 5K timed run, 5K untimed walk or 1 Mile Fun Walk, in addition to a variety of entertainment and activities. The event site will open at 6:30 a.m., and the 5K Run will begin at 8:30 a.m., following the Survivor Parade.

Last year, roughly 3,500 participants attended the Lombard race. The goal for the 2015 is to raise more than $300,000 on behalf of breast cancer research and prevention.
