Bill would ban lobbyists from public pensions

Spurred by a Daily Herald investigation about taxpayer-funded pensions for lobbying associations, legislation was introduced Wednesday that would bar those organizations from participating in public pension programs in the future. "These pension systems are being looted, and it's a total ripping off of the taxpayer," said state Rep. Marty Moylan, a Des Plaines Democrat who sponsored the bill. Full story.

Proposed Geneva law aims at BB, air guns

Forget about asking for a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun this Christmas, Geneva kids. The city is about to ban shooting them within city limits. The city council will vote Monday on a measure that prohibits shooting any kind of gun, including pellet guns and other air- or gas-fired guns, within the city limits. Full story.

Elgin firefighters rally around colleague with cancer

Tonight, the Elgin Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser for firefighter Pierre Soulier, who was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in mid-April. The event, which will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Danny's Pizza, 231 Douglas Ave. in Elgin, aims to help the Soulier family with medical bills. Full story.
