Indian Independence Festival in Schaumburg
With Bappi Lahiri's rendering of Bollywood songs, fireworks and an expected crowd of 5,000, the Indian Independence Day Festival will kick off at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Boomers Stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.
Bagpipers playing the Indian national anthem along with a multitude of children and artists will enter the stadium by releasing hundreds of balloons in the Indian tricolors during the Bollywood-style opening.
Illinois Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti will lead a lineup of dozens of confirmed elected officials at the event.
Regular tickets cost $8 while premium tickets - including entries for all raffles - cost $12 if purchased in advance at Sulekha.com.
Tickets will be $2 extra at the gate. Senior citizens can buy tickets for only $5 and kids under 5 years old are free.
Part of the proceeds will go to the Nepal Relief Fund and a scholarship foundation.
