Bartlett man receives 6-year prison sentence

A 21-year-old Bartlett man was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to felony drug possession.

Jose Magallanes was arrested in March after members of the North Central Narcotics Task Force raided his home on the 500 block of Deer Park Circle. Investigators recovered nearly a kilogram of cocaine, as well as measuring and packaging equipment, a ledger and an unspecified amount of cash.

Authorities said the recovered drugs had a street value of nearly $100,000.

Magallanes has been held at the Cook County jail since his arrest, according to the sheriff's website.

Magallanes - who prosecutors noted had no known criminal history when arrested - was facing a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if he had been found guilty of a manufacturing charge. Instead, he will have to serve at least half of the six-year sentence and will receive credit for 222 days behind bars, authorities said.
