Missing Campton Hills teen found safe

Emily Czajkowski of Campton Hills, missing for almost a week, has been found, safe and unharmed.

About 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, St. Charles police say they found Emily at a friend's home in St. Charles. The mother of Emily's friend, who is a juvenile boy, called the police when she found Emily in her home.

Police determined that Emily is safe and was not a victim of any criminal acts, officials said. She has been reunited with her parents, and the case is now considered a private family matter, police said.

Dozens of friends and even strangers assisted in the search for the 14-year-old who had been missing since Wednesday evening. They hung fliers and ribbons throughout St. Charles, Batavia, Geneva and other surrounding towns.

Thousands of people also joined a Facebook group called "Help find Emily Czajkowski," which was created to make the public aware of the missing teen.

It recounted how friends, family and community members had been handing out fliers, leading search groups and hanging purple and yellow ribbons - Emily's favorite colors - throughout the area.

St. Charles Unit District 303 also sent an email to parents Monday seeking information from students, according to a post on the Facebook page.

Emily went missing last Wednesday after a parent dropped her off for a dance class at Pottawatomie Community Center in St. Charles. She did not attend the class, but a surveillance video showed her leaving the building shortly after 6:30 p.m. while talking on her cellphone, police said.

Other law enforcement agencies assisted St. Charles police with the search, including Geneva and Batavia police departments, the Kane County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshals Service.

A post on the Facebook page thanked police and community members for their help in locating Emily.

"We do not have any fine details," the post says. "But the important thing is that she is home, she is safe, and she is with her family that loves her more than words can say."
