Man shot in leg in Elgin

A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant Monday night in Elgin, police said.

The shooting occurred after 8:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Summit Street, according to an Elgin Police Department news release.

The victim told police he was confronted by a male Hispanic in his early- to mid-20s with black, shoulder-length hair, wearing gray pants and a while shirt.

The victim's injuries and were not considered life-threatening, the release said, stating that the man attempted to unsuccessfully "self-treat" his injuries. He then was driven to Advocate Sherman Hospital by an acquaintance.
