Fox Lake's Venetian Night has zombie theme

The theme for Fox Lake's eighth annual Venetian Night will be "A Zombie Apocalypse On the Chain." The event will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 1, at 33 W. Grand Ave. in Fox Lake, with a block party kicking off the night.

The highlight of the event is the Venetian Boat Parade, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for creativity, costumes, decorations and lighting of the boat parade entries. The awards are $500 for first place $300 for second place and $200 for third place.

The night will also feature dancing to music provided DJ Bob from Soundwave Entertainment, Antioch Asylum II scare previews, food and beverages. Fireworks will take place around 9:30 p.m. over Pistakee Lake.

Admission is free; registration for boats entered in the Venetian Night Parade is $25.

The Village of Fox Lake Parks and Recreation Department will offer free shuttle service for this event from Millennium Park, Lakefront Park, Community Center and the Fox Lake Village Hall in 15-minute intervals from 6-10:30 p.m. Parking at all of the Metra parking lots is free.

Venetian Night is an event for the whole family, though parental guidance is advised during the later hours.

The event is produced thanks to donations from the Fox Lake community, its businesses and the surrounding communities, along with sponsors including the Antioch Asylum, presented by Macabre Haunts, and Trotter and Associates, Inc.
