COD Offers New Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification Program

College of DuPage is offering a new Public Safety Telecommunicator certification program beginning in fall of 2015.

Led by Executive Director at DuPage Public Safety Communications (DU-COMM) Brian Tegtmeyer, this program will combine classroom study with hands-on experience through the use of an advanced simulated 9-1-1 communications center. Students who complete the 80-hour program will earn Emergency Telecommunicator Certification, recognized through the International Association of Emergency Dispatchers (IAED).

With nearly 20 years of experience in public safety communications, Tegtmeyer is a certified Emergency Number Professional (ENP) and a member of both the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) and the Association of Public-Safety communications Officials (APCO). He also serves as the State Coordinator and Vice President of the Illinois Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (IL-TERT) and instructs members in field communications. In addition, Tegtmeyer is a member of the NENA Education Advisory Board and a certified instructor for the Illinois Law Enforcement and Training Standards Board (ILETSB).
