Grayslake man sentenced to 18 years for molesting child

A Grayslake man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for molesting a child from April 2012 until July 2014, a Lake County prosecutor said Monday.

Judge James K. Booras ordered Langsee Sengsavang, 53, to serve two years on parole after his release, Assistant State's Attorney Jason Grindel said after the sentencing hearing. Booras also ordered Sengsavang to register as a sexual predator for life, Grindel said.

Sengsavang is required to serve at least 85 percent of the prison sentence before being eligible for parole, Grindel said.

Sengsavang was charged July 25, 2014, with 16 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for molesting the child on multiple occasions during the two-year period, Grindel said. The child, who was between the ages of 7 and 9 during the attacks, was an acquaintance and was not related to Sengsavang, Grindel said.

Sengsavang pleaded not guilty to the charges in September, Grindel said. He was offered and accepted a plea deal with prosecutors to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault June 25, Grindel said.

As part of the plea deal, the remaining counts against him were dropped, Grindel said.

Both sides agreed to a sentencing range of 12 to 30 years in prison. Grindel said they requested a 30-year prison sentence, and defense attorney Jed Stone asked for the minimum 12 years.
