Police serve lunch to benefit Special Olympics

Naperville Park District police will join law enforcement personnel from the Naperville Police Department on Friday, July 31, to serve lunch to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests will enjoy a "free" lunch at Texas Roadhouse, 2856 Patriot's Lane, Naperville, served by police officers and may simply leave a donation at the table. One hundred percent of the donations will go toward Special Olympics Illinois.

Special Olympics merchandise will be for sale during the benefit lunch and also can be bought through the Naperville Park District by calling Chief Carl Schnibben at (630) 848-5049.

Park police began fundraising for Special Olympics Illinois earlier this spring by selling T-shirts and by participating in the Cop on a Rooftop event in June.

Special Olympics Illinois is a not-for-profit organization offering year-round training and competition in 19 sports for nearly 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 21,000 young athletes ages 2 to 7 with and without intellectual disabilities. According to a news release posted on the organization's website, "Special Olympics transforms lives by empowering people with intellectual disabilities to realize their full potential in sports and in life."
