In July Lombard Garden Club's Meeting Centered Around Gardening with Children

Friday, July 24 beginning at 1:00 PM at the Calvary Episcopal Church, 105 W. Maple Street in Lombard, the Lombard Garden Club members gathered with their guests, children of all ages for a gardening experience geared toward children. The ages of the children who attended the event were 5 through 12. Parents, grandparents of family friends were there to support and guide the children through the various gardening processes.

A highlight of the event was a Monarch butterfly demonstration led by a Lombard resident who has had a Monarch Waystation for years. Another part of the event included a worm

/vermiculture lesson using red wiggler worms from the U of I Master Gardener program. Each child in attendance planted a bean plant and took their pot home to either transplant into the ground or leave it in the cup to watch the growth developments as the bean grew in the planter. Lombard Garden Club Cynthia Ward organized this program for the Garden Club and she hopes to do more with children and gardening during the 2015-2016 club year.
